Kendall Barbie Beauty (KBB) has officially been open in downtown Fargo for a full year, becoming a staple for many downtowners and visitors alike looking for excellent aesthetician services, high-quality make-up and skincare products, and plenty of snarky gifts and goods. As Kendall put together her business plan, she thought carefully about where her shop should be located.
“I find that in most cities, downtown is the hub of culture. I felt downtown Fargo aligned with my business values,” Kendall said. “A lot of events downtown have a big focus on inclusion, which is the driving force behind Kendall Barbie Beauty.”
Now that KBB has been a part of the community for a full year, Kendall says her favorite part of being downtown is a sense of belonging.
“I love feeling like I am a part of a community every day,” she said. “I see familiar faces not just in my space but out and about, too.”
Beyond feeling like both she and her business belong in downtown Fargo, though, Kendall says there are plenty of financial benefits to choosing a downtown location.
“I think the main benefit is foot traffic, especially during events like the Red River Market. Because of the foot traffic, I basically don’t need an advertising budget, which gives me the freedom to get involved in other ways,” Kendall said. “The ability to network with other small businesses to continue building community is also a huge benefit.”
